Dampit Guitar Humidifier
The Dampit Humidifier is the very first humidifier that I purchased for my guitars. They are exceedingly simple and very effective. To use the unit position your guitar in its case and stick the Dampit through the sound-hole and clip to the side. You can then make use of the plastic sound-hole cover, although I choose not to bother with the cover.
After charging the humidifier with water, you ought to wring or shake excess water from it to prevent staining the unfinished surfaces of the guitar interior. The directions for implementing this are clearly stated in the accompanying directions.
Although there are many more pricey and elaborate guitar humidifier systems on the market, if you are looking for a simple, no hassles, and inexpensive way to eradicate humidity related guitar repairs, pick up a few of these great little humidifiers.
Dislikes: The supplied humidity measurement system that comes packaged with the unit is not very reliable. I would much prefer a more accurate system to monitor humidity levels. The Oasis OH-2 hydrometer is an excellent way to go as it consistently and accurately monitors the humidity levels inside your guitar case.
The Guitar Humidifier by Planet Waves
This too is a very simple system whereby you fill the included plastic syringe with water and drip it into the sponge material that is in the humidifier. Be careful that you don’t overfill the sponge or reservoir or it will drip. Using this humidifier, moist air will travel during the entire case, exposing your entire guitar to humidity.
Dislikes: I have better things to do than take the time to load this sponge with water a few drops at a time. Also by cramming the humidifier between the strings can throw your guitar slightly out of tune. Another dislike with this system and is in common with many humidifier,s is there is not a good system for humidity level monitoring.
The Herco Guitar Humidifier
When looking for an instrument humidification system for my violins and mandolins, I came across this great little humidifier. Being that this humidifier is relatively leak-free and somewhat compact, you can place it viturally anywhere in your guitar case.
It is water absorbent clay in a plastic container. Since they are so small, I typically use 2 of them for a larger instrument such as an acoustic guitar or a classical guitar.
Place the unit into a water filled cup or jar for a minimum of five minutes to charge it with water. Please Note: This unit does not come with any directions. Take it out, wipe it off, and pop it in your case! You will need to repeat this every few days. My experience has shown that his little humidifier will not leak and it will keep your wooden instruments humidified.
Dislikes: Since this device does not give you any feedback on the humidity levels, you should supplement it with a good hydrometer such as the Oasis OH-2.
